I SLEPT FOR 14HRS! IF not for my sc calling me up to head down to sch to do saikang & clean up the sch, I would probably sleep for 16 hrs? HOHO,i was that shagged having slept 1-2 hrs for 2 consecutive days & average 4 hours the week before that. ok, just a caution this post will be rather long.. but well im just doing a reflection of the camp.
Many things happened since the 1 week + that i havent blogged. OGL camp has just been one day over, and im having mixed feelings about how it went. Im not even sure if the sleepless nights i had & slogging my arse off were worth it but then again,im a mixed up & confused kid right now. :X
i'm not go into much details about what happened during the camp, but i guess, sometimes things just don't go your way.I'm filled with regrets now about what could have been done to prevent some of the things that happened during camp, and affected the whole camp. Many questions are going thru my mind, and the list if "what ifs" goes on and on..
I can't say if i'm happy or not with the outcome from the camp. Mayb its just that im a girl with high expectations, and thus will obviously feel disappointed when my expectations aren't met. It is also possible that the camp had many hiccups & needs much improvements.. Ill jus take it as that.
Being 1st ic of the camp was tough, especially having to run a camp for my own peers. Having to juggle among having to meet the objectives of the camp, meeting the expectations of the TAs, taking into acct of the welfare of my SC & having to consider everyones feelings was rather challenging. being sick during camp didnt help much, & having damn sexay raspy voice prevented me from wanting to do much. It was hard on my part as majority of my sc are inexperienced in running camps & therefore overwhelmed by thing. I have to give credits to my sc, because they have done their best to salvage the situation & tried adapting to the camp and all, as the challenge we faced was most trying, and yea, id rather focus on the effort put in by them rather than the outcome. Maybe we have not hoped for such an outcome, but in defense for the other 32 people who have slogged their arse off in the month of Nov,with never-ending meetings & preplanning for this camp, i thought they were rather unappreciated by the participants ,some of whom were rather rude to my family of SC. Call me biased & all, but i felt that my SC at least deserved a pat on their back for the efforts & sleep they're sacrificed, no matter what mistakes they might have committed or the people they have offended. Im rather fine with not being aknowledged as 1st ic of camp, but I most particular with the treatment given to my SC. For those who have a whole list of things to complain abt, pls, how about think about being in our shoes before shooting off your heads about every nitty gritty thing abt the camp? Im talking abt complaints here & not constructive feedback, if you have no idea whats the difference, let me elaborate.
complain: aiyoh..y got so many things during camp? bery tiring leh Comstructive Feedback: I think the time limit for bathing is too little. Can we have an extention to the time duration?
Yea so thats the difference. One has rants worked up byh emotions while the other is more reasonable, pointing out a problem and giving suggestions. If you still dunno the diffence, enlighten me :) im open to any feedback/complaints
anyway, back to feeling unappreciated, then again,i realise thats just the part n parcel of life. I mean how many of us actually say the magic word "thank you" or at least a smile to a service brought to you? I guess the problem here lies with taking things for granted. For example, (scene @ Macs) The macs worker goes to a table to clear the tray. We see the vacant seat n immediately run there like most kiasu SIngaporeans do. How many of us actually thought of saying a word of thank you or even a nod of thanks to these people? At least I can admit i still do. For those of us who usually don't or do it once in a blue moon, its time to do so! these people slogged off their brains clearing trays for pigs like us who cant eat properly without dripping some cheese on the table or clearing flying fries that end up on the floor. Yea, yes it is indeed their job to clear the tables, but you cant say its my SC's job to run a good camp (1st, we aren't getting paid @ all= overworked, never bloody paid. I shd complain to MOM ,haha) 2nd, it is service to the sch,yes i know, but theres a limit to everythg yea.
Anyway, enough of this topic. Another thing i felt we could have done better is our interpersonal skills. I know, we are rather weak at that area, i realised. SOmetimes , i do admit SC are in our own world, a realm of our own where no one understands, hoho, but yea, we shd be more aware of our surroundings. I think what we could have done is mix more with the OGLs & house comm. who are our peers and people we'll be working with till orientation so we need to extablish such relationships in order to work better with each other. Yeap, that ,I think we can work on. :) & yea, i know, my darling sc sometimes need to lighten up when we're at work, but i guess the stress gets us all worked up n all. I need to smile more, shucks, im all chirpy with my class n all but when im with the sc, sometimes i kinda forget la.hahha, stress-ed.
Gosh, im getting sian already & Heros is starting , so I shall keep it short. Overall, i do admit the camp did not turn out how much i intended it to be ,but all i can say is that it did allow me to grow & the experience, though some are bitter ,are learning points I can work on. I do apologise sincerely to those who attended the camp & got unhappy & disappointed over the outcome. I welcome all feedback to my email orange_Fr3ak@hotmail.com , or you can add me as well to explain any concern you have with regards to the camp :) yeap, any comments are a good way to improve on things, yeap.
